Ah, Finally, Fall

Sep 19, 2025

Ah, Fall… finally. It’s my favorite time of year. For a lot of reasons, too. First, there’s the weather. I love the chilly nights and mild days. I love the colors on the trees—I grew up in Upstate New York and miss the vibrant landscapes each year. And then there’s the scents—apple harvest, trees turning and radiating that the damp-earth into the air, and later in the month… wood smoke.  Of course, these things all bring back my childhood—marred as it was—and I think my passion for the holiday is more from the time of year than the festivities of Halloween or Thanksgiving. I’ve certainly enjoyed Halloween more once I got out on my own than as a kid. I live for the annual Murder Mystery at my family Halloween party I sponsor. That, and decorating and getting in the spirit with old movies—Sleepy Hollow, Halloween (the original), Hocus Pocus (of course!), and Creature of the Black Lagoon (Okay, not really Halloween-ish, but it’s my post), and who could NOT watch Clue a million times? And speaking of spirits, those who have followed me in the past know Halloween is more than just murder mysteries and parties. It’s a way of life for me. My house gets transformed into a neighborhood ghoul-house. And, for those who read my paranormal mysteries—New Sins for Old Scores and The Dead Detective Casefiles— will note the headstones in my front yard—Tuck Tucker, Doc Gilley, and of course, Captain Trick McCall. I had to honor them!

So all enjoy the season. And in time for the festivities, I hope to have Tuck’s latest Dead Detective Casefile #4 out sometime this fall—Dying With A Secret. Tuck gets in over his head trying to solve the murder of a federal agent by a secret weapon, the hunt for the real-world Beale Treasure, and a rogue government research facility that may have met its match with an eleven-year-old paranormal prodigy.

But for now… it’s Boo-Season!

Until next time, Yasoo, Adieu, Adios, and all that—see ya soon and be safe!

Welcome

I first fell in love with writing while in grade school and over the years continued to dabble with characters and stories whenever life allowed. Lately, I've focused my energy on pursuing this dream—interrupted only by life as a security consultant and the demands of two Labrador retrievers.
